Can people living with HIV take OncuraKit?
People living with HIV, particularly those on stable antiretroviral therapy (ART) with suppressed viral load and near-normal CD4 counts, may be eligible for OncuraKit. HIV is associated with elevated cancer risk (Kaposi sarcoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and increasingly common non-AIDS-defining cancers like lung, anal, and liver cancer). Some antiretroviral medications have been associated with modest miRNA expression changes in research settings, but the clinical significance for OncuraKit interpretation is not yet established. We recommend discussing with your HIV specialist before ordering. People with HIV who have uncontrolled infection (unsuppressed viral load) or who are immunocompromised (CD4 <200) face additional considerations related to chronic inflammation's effects on miRNA.
