Does the color or smell of my urine affect the results?
Urine color and odor are indicators of hydration and can reflect dietary choices (asparagus, beets, vitamins can affect color and odor) but these factors do not directly affect the miRNA content of your specimen. Very dark, concentrated urine (dehydration) contains more total solutes — but the Yenos HL normalization accounts for concentration differences by normalizing to total RNA content. Foul-smelling urine can indicate a UTI, in which case you should wait until the infection resolves before collecting. Fluorescent yellow urine from B vitamins is not a concern. Red or pink urine from blood (hematuria) indicates a medical condition that should be evaluated by a physician — do not collect if you see blood in your urine.
