Yes — your result can change year to year. A Normal result becoming Elevated in a subsequent year is the most clinically important scenario — it may indicate the early emergence of a cancer signal that was not yet detectable the previous year. This is precisely why annual repeat testing is recommended. An Elevated result becoming Normal in a subsequent year is also possible — it could indicate that the initial elevation was due to a transient biological cause (illness, inflammation) that has resolved, or that the first result was at the borderline and subsequent measurement fell below threshold. Any change in your result — in either direction — warrants discussion with your physician to determine the appropriate clinical response.
