Could the MinION/Yenos platform eventually be used at point-of-care?

One of the MinION's well-known advantages is its portability — it was designed to be used in field settings (rainforests, on space stations, in remote clinics) for infectious disease surveillance. In principle, the MinION/Yenos platform could eventually be deployed in a point-of-care setting — a physician's office, a pharmacy, or a mobile health clinic — where it could analyze a urine sample collected on-site. However, the current OncuraKit model uses centralized laboratory processing at Yenos Analytical because it provides the highest quality control, trained personnel, and CLIA certification required for clinical reporting. Future point-of-care deployment would require additional regulatory work and training protocols, but the hardware already exists for it.
